10% Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections

It's the first time in India, when a large portion of the population has been granted reservation since their independence. The General Category in the most debatable topic in the reservation system of India have finally been given another topic to talk about.

Decades have passed and the old reservation system is still a topic with diverse views. It's like if we had a referendum, it will be having results much more complex than the Brexit.

So, lets see.

What is it ?

10% reservation in jobs and higher education for those belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) or Economically Backward Classes (EBCs) of unreserved categories.

Total Reservation in India :- 50%

Now :- 50% + 10% = 60%

Who comes under EWSs/EBCs ?

A person will qualify as economically weaker if :
  1. The Annual Income is below Rs. 8 lakh.
  2. They own agriculture land less than 5 hectares.
  3. Their home is smaller than 1000 square feet.
  4. They own residential plots below 109 yards in notified municipality.
  5. They own residential plots below 209 yards in non-notified municipality.

It has proven time and again that Reservation has and will always be the pillar to win elections, when the major concern for the nation is job opportunity, skill development, education, agriculture etc.
